Album 2: Mic Gutz – Me Against The 6ix Mixtape – 2.5 Beards
I received the digital version of this mixtape prior to its pressin but was presently surprised to
see the generic mixtape presentation of the hardcopies. The mixtape consists of a printed cd
and a interesting front black, white and red design. I was disappointed to see that there was no
track listing included with the mixtape. The album consists of 14 features over the 18 tracks and
include Mark Jordan, Stitch, Skitsofrenic, Golden, Spade of Citizen Cane as well as others. The
album is a mix of politically charged tracks with a few diss tracks in the mix and plays well with a
mix of boom bap with some newer industry beats. High points for me on this mixtape are
“Corruption” with verses from Spade and Words, “Hands Up, Dont Shoot” with Golden and YBS
Frack and the “Fed Up Remix” with Mark Jordan. The album includes various shots both direct
and subliminal including the tracks “Disrespectful” that details the relationship between Gutz
and Robbie G. The track “Going Back To Cali” is over the Notorious Beat and includes a
humorous intro skit where iLLvibe prepares for his flight to Cali. Low points for me on the album
is for such politically driven content I found it was focused more on the US than Toronto, or
Canada. Also a few of the tracks on the mixtape came across as filler or maybe rushed to me
and didnt really resonate with me from arrangement, to beat selection to content. As a mixtape
and a free download I still think it is worth checking out if not at least to keep up to date on
some current beef.
Coming back to this Mixtape about three years later I rated this album a little bit higher approaching it more as a Mixtape than an Album. As far as a Toronto mixtape goes I do think it is worth the listen to, or free download.
